Sample Project List Through the use of strategic partnerships, Glenwood brings a number of experienced research professionals to client assignments. Our partnerships are based on complimentary areas of concentration which we combine to form comprehensive teams capable of undertaking a wide variety of research, training and evaluation activities. Our work products are focused on the client organization and its staff, and are produced in formats clients find they can use to support their ongoing program improvement efforts. In addition, we leave our clients with the tools and the knowledge of our methods so that they may continue to conduct evaluation activities to meet their ongoing needs. Projects List People's Regional Opportunity program (PROP) Drug Free Communities Principal Evaluator for a five-year Drug Free Communities grant program. Activities include asset mapping, updating area needs assessments, and evaluation of Coalition efficacy and activities. Raymond Mentoring Partnership Principal Evaluator for an OSA funded mentor program matching middle school students with elementary grade students for mentoring; and matching middle school students with community adults. Evaluation components include instrument design and administration, observation, interviews, and focus groups. Community Housing of Maine (CHOM) Principal Evaluator for a Federal grant project designed to reduce the time required to qualify domestic individuals with mental illnesses for subsidized housing; and to demonstrate reductions in unit maintenance costs and utility usage among this population. Evaluation methods include instrument design and administration, interviews, and records review. PROP's the Women's Project Principal Researcher - Needs Assessment of Cultural Sub-Population - enrolled college females, ages 18 to 24, regarding alcohol use, knowledge and attitudes. Maine Office of Substance Abuse funded Needs Assessment study to identify substance abuse needs and resources of a distinct cultural subpopulation - college females, ages 18 to 24 within Maine. The purpose of the study is to contribute information future prevention programs and coalitions in Maine can use to plan and implement culturally competent substance abuse prevention programs, policies and practices. Head Start Domestic Violence Initiative Funder: Head Start Bureau Under its Small Business Innovative Technology (SBIR) program, the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services / ACF / ACYF / Head Start Bureau has contracted with Glenwood Research to develop a national curriculum on domestic violence for Head Start Family Service workers. College Women Alcohol Abuse Prevention Needs Study. PROP's the Women's Project (Maine Office of Substance Abuse). A project to develop and disseminate substance abuse needs and resources assessments of distinct cultural subpopulations within Maine. This study was focused on 18 to 24 year old female college students. Study objectives included: Identify prevention opportunities and resources for college-age female alcohol issues; Identify behaviors, trends and other data that prevention programmers in Maine can use to plan and implement culturally competent alcohol prevention programs, policies and practices; and Document alcohol use characteristics and influences on this sub population. Embedded study - test and document the sub population's knowledge and attitudes around the connection between alcohol consumption and resulting Fetal Alcohol Spectrum Disorders (FASD). Drug Free Communities - PROP's Communities Promoting Health A five-year Drug Free Communities grant program. Activities include asset mapping, updating area needs assessments, and evaluation of Coalition efficacy and activities. A Company of Girls (ACOG) Youth risk behavior prevention program for girls, ages 9 to 18, using performance art activities (theatre) as a method for engaging youth in programming designed to strengthen life skills and characteristics of resilience. Fetal Alcohol Spectrum Disorders (FASD) - the Maine Office of Substance Abuse Development and facilitation of a year one needs assessment in support of State efforts to prevent incidents of FASD in Maine. Development and facilitation of a four year evaluation of FASD prevention programming. Features of the project include the use of Participatory Action Research (PAR) methods to identify and accomplish project goals and objectives. Project activities include developing measures of impact for state initiated activities and methods of prevention. Maine Office of Substance Abuse (OSA) - Women's Project Evaluation Ongoing, since 1996, evaluation of a statewide program designed to reduce and/or eliminate barriers to treatment for women substance abusers. Activities include research and development of a barrier impact assessment instrument, pre to post analysis of intervention outcomes, and progress reporting. United Way of North Central Massachusetts - Outcomes Training and Technical Assistance Glenwood acted as coach and facilitator, assisting sponsored programs in identifying and confirming their intended outcomes. We then worked with program personnel to develop methods and tools to identify and quantify the outcomes of their programming on an ongoing basis. We also provided this training and assistance to community organizations planning to apply to the United Way for funding. Training was also provided to UWNCM volunteers on program evaluation, and expectations around sponsored program application content. Training included development of a standard application format, and a scoring rubric (guide) volunteers could use when reviewing funding applications. Most recently, we developed a site visit question and scoring guide to assist volunteers as they assess programs in the field. WMPG - Blunt Blunt is a youth risk behavior prevention program for high school-age boys and girls, using radio production and presentation as a method for engaging youth in programming designed to strengthen characteristics of resilience in participant youth.
Glenwood Contributions Youthlinks - Cultivating Connections Youthlinks provides community service learning and enrichment programs for youth ages 11-17 throughout the mid-coast portion of Knox County Maine. Consisting of ten (10) separate program activities. Youthlinks is a resilience-strengthening prevention program using participation in cultivation/nutrition/conservation programming to prepare youth to engage in community service. Glenwood Contribution (Social Development Model) Confirmed and formalized program theoretical basis Designed and conduct annual program evaluation on targeted skills and prevention outcomes Developed program manual Youthlinks - Lions Quest Youthlinks delivers Lion's Quest curricula to middle school students attending the St. George Middle School. Lions Quest is a national curriculum of the Lion's Club International organization. The curriculum is a school-based positive youth development and prevention program that unites the home, school and community to cultivate capable and healthy young people of strong character, through life skills, character education, civic values, drug prevention, and service-learning education. Glenwood Contribution - identified the California Healthy Kids Survey, Module B as an appropriate instrument to assess program effectiveness in strengthening characteristics of resilience. Conducting pre and post testing on students to assess changes in positive assets known to contribute to healthy life outcomes in youth. Parents Advancing Choice in Education (PACE) Dayton, Ohio Principal researcher - program evaluation of a needs-based scholarship program enabling inner city youth to attend private, tuition-based schools as an alternative to Dayton public schools in an effort to improve graduation rates and post secondary education attainment. Research activities include: focus groups, survey design and administration among parents and students; and development of data reporting formats on program accomplishments. Activities include asset mapping, updating area needs assessments, and evaluation of Coalition efficacy and activities including youth advocacy and youth prevention programming. AmeriCorps Programming Principal researcher - evaluations of AmeriCorps programming as delivered by Coastal Enterprises, Inc., the Training Resource Center, and the Island Institute. Evaluation design included instrument development to support testing of AmeriCorps program objectives and outcomes on youth and adult participants, and on community needs in accordance with Maine Commission for Community Service requirements. United Way of North Central Massachusetts - Assessing Community Impact The development of effective community-wide measures of impact. Project involved training in program evaluation and impact measure design and methodology for United Way sponsored programming; development of community-wide impact measures, and the development of standards of measures to be utilized by member programs to demonstrate contribution to community impact goals. Northampton After School / Out of School Time Program (ASOST) Development of outcome measures, tools and methods for assessing program impact of after school and out-of-school-time programming designed to enhance and support in-school learning objectives as developed by the Massachusetts Department of Education. DHHS - ACF - Office of Adolescent Pregnancy Prevention Conducted and evaluation of an adolescent risk-behavior prevention program which tested the efficacy of risk behavior modification curricula on adolescent sexual activity, as well as other risk behaviors. Study focus was pregnancy prevention through abstinence. Evaluation activities included instrument design, focus group facilitation, pre and post quantitative and qualitative analysis to assess program impact on participants, and consultation to staff on program design issues. DHHS - AFC - Office of Community Services - Gaining Independence, Resiliency and Learning Systems (GIRLS) Provided research, evaluation and site management activities for a three-year, Federal grant evaluation of an adolescent prevention program to determine effectiveness of gender-specific prevention program curriculum. Activities included instrument design, survey administration, and post program impact analysis. |
